So I've decided to start wearing bow ties. I recently taught myself to tie one for a black tie event. I wasn't too worried about learning as I'm well-versed in many traditional necktie knots. However, I found a great youtube video that helped.
But, why you ask, wear a bow tie? And part of my answer is that I just liked how it looked and felt. This can be a pretty good fashion guideline, with the caveat that you are operating within the realm of good taste to begin with. So no super baggy, underwear (and other more tragic things) exposing pants, for instance. And there's, I guess, a bit of a rebellious side of me that likes being in the minority when it comes to some of my fashion decisions. The 5% nation of bow ties.
There have also been some great style icons who've rocked to bow tie. For example, Dr. Who (numbers 2, 3, and 11), Andre 3000, Mos Def, and Glenn O'Brien. That's just a few. Check out Mos Def below and you'll see why I'm inspired.
So we'll see how it goes. I'm kicking it off tomorrow. Care to join me?
